5 Essential Cajun Foods To Eat in Louisiana

Louisiana is well known for it’s Cajun Cuisine. I’m fortunate to live in an area that we enjoy Cajun Cooking daily and use the recipes that were cooked by our extended families for years. If you can’t find an ingredient at your local store, we have links that will send you to a site where you can order certain foods, such as Roux. This is a list our our favorite foods:

1 Gumbo: A ‘soup’ made with a Roux base. A roux is made by cooking flour and oil until it is dark brown. Roux can also be bought in a jar. Leftover roux can be stored in the refrigerator. Gumbo can be made either with a hen and sausage or seafood. Cooked okra is often added. Gumbo is served over rice.

2 Crawfish Etouffee: (A-2-fay) Crawfish cooked in a gravy with butter. Usually Tomato Sauce or Cream of Mushroom Soup is added.

3 Boudin: (boo-dan) A casing stuffed with spicy Pork meat, rice, and seasonings. Similar to, but different, from sausage.
