MAYAN RUINS OF TULUM, MEXICO

Tulum is one of the easiest Mayan Ruins to visit due to it’s location on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Perched on a bluff, next to the crystal clear turquoise sea, white sandy beaches, and lush green foliage, it is also the most beautiful.

As you enter the ruins, prepare yourself to be greeted by many Iguanas, roaming freely on the ground and on the stone wall around the ancient port city.

The most prominent stone buildings are the El Castillo, The Temple of the Frescoes which was used for observing the movements of the sun, and the Temple of the Descending God. Unfortunately, tourists can no longer enter these buildings but must stay on the path.

Tulum is about an hour from Playa Del Carmen, where we stayed at the all inclusive Playacor Palace which I will write a review on later. The Mayan Ruin is about two hours from Cancun. Tourists can board tour buses from the resorts and from the ferry that brings visitors from the Cozumel cruise ships to Playa del Carmen. The guides on the buses give entertaining and educational tours with stories of the Mayan people. They also allow ample free time for exploring the ruins and picture taking. Some tours allow extra time to swim in the beautiful Caribbean beach at Tulum.

Upon leaving the ruins, you can spend time in the village drinking coconut milk then enjoying coconut pieces with hot sauce and lime juice. You may also choose to spend some of your time shopping for souvenirs.
