If you’re looking for antiques, Historical Washington, Louisiana is definitely the place to go! Located on the Bayou Courtableau, Washington was once the largest port between St. Louis and New Orleans, witnessing many steamboat landings. There are still many historical buildings being used and today, 80% of the city is listed in The National Register of Historic Places.

People come from far to shop for antiques in Washington. A favorite shopping spot is The Old Schoolhouse Antique Mall which has re purposed the old school and gymnasium into the perfect destination for antique seekers. The mall is opened Friday thru Sunday. Twice a year the Old Schoolhouse Antique Mall also holds an outdoor Antique Fair and Yard Sale with extra vendors filling the entire school grounds! The next outdoor Antique Fair and Yard Sale will be held on the weekend of October 11, 2019 starting on Friday at 9 am.

Main Street is lined with a few independent antique shops. There are also many historical homes and buildings. For instance, Wolff Banquet and Reception Hall is a renovated building built in the 1840’s that is very popular today.

If you’re hungry, you’re in luck! The Mall houses the Old Schoolhouse Cafe which is a fifties themed restaurant serving lunch and desserts. On Main Street, The Old Courtableau Cafe serves a wide variety of food from salads and burgers to seafood. They serve both lunch and dinner. On Friday nights you will find a band playing Cajun French music and people dancing the night away. If you’re in the mood for Fine Dining, the Steamboat Warehouse Restaurant is definitely the place to go. The old warehouse on Bayou Courtableau has been transformed into a fantastic restaurant with a steamboat warehouse era atmosphere. You can also stroll outside to the deck over the bayou and enjoy the setting sun.
