Find a Diamond at Crater Of Diamonds State Park – Murfreesboro, Arkansas
If you’re interested in finding your own diamond, Crater of Diamonds State Park at Murfreesboro, Arkansas is the place to go! This is the only place in America and possibly the world that the public can dig in a volcanic crater to find diamonds and other gemstones. For a small entrance fee, you get to keep what you find. If you choose, you may watch a film or get instructions from the park rangers before trying your luck. People find white, yellow, and brown diamonds along with amethyst, garnets, and other gemstones. It is interesting to know that many of the diamonds are found without digging, but above ground. This is due to the rangers routinely plowing the crater to loosen the dirt which exposes the gems. Over 75000 diamonds have been found since 1906. The largest one found was 40.23 carats and was named the Uncle Sam. You can bring your own equipment or rent it at the site. Should you find a gemstone or diamond, the park rangers will gladly identify your treasure.
We brought our grandchildren to dig for diamonds. They quickly decided that the job was too dirty and hot.
We didn’t find any diamonds but on the very same day that we were there, a close friend of ours happened to find a yellow diamond!
Our grandchildren decided they preferred to dig for colored rocks at the indoor, air conditioned Dino Dig.
What better way to end a hot day than with an old fashioned malt!
