Travel and Packing Info for Foreign Trips
Passports
You must have a valid Passport on you at all times. To prevent major problems, it is wise to bring a copy of your passport and two extra passport photos in case your passport gets misplaced. I recommend that you carry a passport holder around your neck or a money belt around your waist.
Have Available At All Times
Passport, Medication, Money, Toilet paper, and valuables. It is wise to carry a list of your Hotels.
Medications
Cary a copy of your prescriptions with generic names. Keep this list separate from your medications. All medications must be in a labeled container – ask your pharmacist for small bottles.
Money
The best option for obtaining money is at a bank at the ATM. Make sure your bank allows foreign transactions at ATMs before you leave home. You can exchange money elsewhere, such as airports, but your rate of exchange will not be as good.
Luggage
Check with your airline to see what size luggage they allow and how much it can weigh. Usually 50 pounds is the limit for a large suitcase. You can usually bring a carry on and a personal bag that can fit under the seat in front of you. The best option, if possible, would be to pack in a large backpack that can be carried onto the plane.
Clothing
Pack lightly! If you forget something, you can always buy it overseas. Bring layers that can be added or removed. I find packing cubes help tremendously to keep clothing organized. Travelers always say they should have packed lighter!
Electrical
Current is 220 in Europe. Bring a power converter (or two) and the adapter plugs for the countries you are visiting. (There are some wonderful small converters with the plugs built in but make sure you have a converter and not just an adapter) Bring enough to charge all of your electronics!
